I make and decorate a lot of birthday, anniversary, special event and wedding cakes for friends and family. This is the handiest mixture!
You know how you are told in a recipe to grease and flour a pan when making a cake? This eliminates a lot of mess and time spent doing that, AND the cakes come out of the pan PERFECT every time!
Using your mixer, mix 1/2 c. vegetable oil (not olive or any strong flavor oil), 1/2 solid vegetable shortening (Crisco), and 1/2 c. all purpose flour until smooth. Use a pastry or new paint brush to brush the mixture all over inside the pan. I've even used a paper towel, you just have to make sure a good coat is spread evenly. Don't be stingy! Leftover mixture stores nicely in an airtight container but you may have to re-stir it if it separates during storage.
