UPDATE to my meal planning post from yesterday

I promised I'd update you all with the totals from my shopping trip:

Reminder....DO NOT TAKE KIDS OR MOM NEXT TIME! lol

They made things worse, you know how it goes. My mom is blind and kept putting things in my cart instead of hers, the kids unloaded the carts at checkout and I ended up paying for a lot of her things. I don't mind, but it's a hit on my grocery $$. She'll pay me back, I think.

My grand total was WAY more than I wanted: $326.71. However, in that amount, there was $21.19 for 40 lbs. dog food, $2.64 for fresh peaches that weren't on the list :-) , $26.62 for enough laundry soap and dishwasher detergent to get through next month at Walmart (yes, I went THERE b/c mom wanted to go and I ended up paying for HER things again so add $5.28 more LOL), and $9.60 for toilet paper to get us through next month (wasn't on the list but we'll need it and it was a good deal for 24 big rolls). I also bought two things that were NOT on my list, 1 gallon ice cream for $3.99 and dill pickles for $1.69. I stopped at Dollar General on my way home to buy graham crackers and ended up spending $2.06 more there than I'd planned, thanks to kids again.

AGAIN, NO KIDS OR MOM NEXT TIME! LOL

Okay, so without all those extras (totaling $73.07), my total for the food groceries on my list was $253.64.

One month's worth, 31 days, of 3 meals a day for 7 people for $253.64.

  1. A gallon of ice cream and pickles? Are you pregnant?? Couldn't resist.

Have you tried making your own laundry soap? The recipe I use has $1.21 worth of ingredients and will last me approximately one year. There's only 3 of us in the family and I forgot how many loads I calculated per week, but I'd say $1.21 is good even if I only got one month of landry from it!

$253.64 for 31 days worth of food for SEVEN people is darn good though!

  2. I wish I had your talent on menu making and shopping. Your darn good. My menus change like underware, so it's real hard to do around here. lol Gonna have to study your technique here some more. I really enjoy reading your recipes and ideas.

  3. @ Kelly - NO I'm not pregnant LOL. I bought the pickles to go with sandwiches as a treat, and the ice cream to top with frozen fruit as an evening treat.

@ G-Pride Farm - Thank you. It is almost a game, a challenge to me, to do this during hard economic times. So many people believe that you have to eat junk unless you have a lot of money, and I am out to prove them wrong, I guess.
